Earlier this month, OpenAI announced its partnership with Apple, with the AI features teased by Apple at its annual developers summit, WWDC 24. However, none of the new Apple Intelligence features are available on eligible devices yet. Today, OpenAI confirms, “The ChatGPT desktop app for macOS is now available for all users.” You can now easily install the app on your Mac, but ensure that your system is running on macOS Sonoma and Apple Silicon (M1 or later). You can install the new ChatGPT desktop app on your Mac through this link, as it is not yet available for download on the App Store. Once installed, you can launch the app from Finder or use an easy keyboard shortcut (Option + Space). You can easily interact with OpenAI’s newest chatbot. When launched, the interface overlays on top of the screen, so you can instantly ask questions related to the content displayed. Additionally, you can drop files, screenshots, photos, and more to ask questions. The desktop app also lets you ask queries using Voice Mode, however, the company’s more powerful Voice Mode feature isn’t yet available, it will be available in the future. If you want to utilize the other powerful features of ChatGPT and GPT 4o, then you can install the new desktop app on your Mac for free. If you are a Plus member, then you can sign in to get access to more features.
