Wireless charging plays a crucial role in a clutter-free environment. It makes things easy as you can just leave your phone on the dock and it will start charging, no need to find the port on your phone. The main reason many users seek phones with wireless charging support is that cars are equipped with wireless chargers. Using wires in cars can be irritating and indirectly a threat to safety. With modern Cars supporting wireless Android Auto and CarPlay, wireless charging becomes even more convenient.

Does Pixel 9 have wireless charging?

Yes, the Pixel 9 lineup comes with support for wireless charging. You can charge Pixel 9 devices with Google’s wireless charger or a Qi-certified charger. Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, all support fast wireless charging. Fast charging via wireless won’t match wired fast charging. But you can still charge your new Pixel phones faster wirelessly.

Maximum wireless charging speed for Pixel 9

You can tell if a charger is fast or slow by looking at its watts. But for fast charging your device must also support higher watts. You may be familiar with Watt ratings as chargers and phones have charging specs in Watts. So you can choose your charger based on how many watts your phone supports. Here are the watt ratings for each Pixel 9 model.

Pixel 9: 15W Pixel 9 Pro: 21W Pixel 9 Pro XL: 23W

Currently, there is no official information on the wireless watt rating for Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but expect it to be lower than 20W. Note: These numbers are only for the Google Pixel Stand (2nd gen). If you use any other Qi-certified EPP chargers, the charging speed will be limited to 12W for all models.

Qi-certified EPP chargers – up to 12W for all Pixel 9 models

These aren’t impressive numbers in 2024 for premium phones as the highest wireless charging speed has already crossed 50 watts. But the Pixel 9 series has better wireless charging than Samsung and Apple phones.

Is wireless charging safe?

No, it is not safe to charge your phone wirelessly on a regular basis. Wireless charging reduces the lifespan of your smartphone’s battery faster than wired charging. This is because the wireless charger generates more heat which directly impacts the battery health. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use wireless charging. You can use it, however, try to use wired charging more than wireless charging. Also, it is advised to use the official wireless charger. Like the Pixel 8, the Pixel 9 doesn’t come with a charger in the box. You’ll need to buy a wired or wireless charger separately.

Can You Charge your Pixel 9 with a higher-watt charger?

Yes, you can charge your Pixel 9 device with a higher wattage charger, but it will charge the Pixel 9 at 12W only. It doesn’t matter if the charger supports more watts than the device. And if you use a charger with fewer watts than what Pixel 9 supports, the device will only charge at the speed of the charger (eg. 10W if the charger is maxed at 10 watts). So this is everything about Pixel 9 wireless charging. Wireless charger can be useful in many situations but don’t overuse it. Do you use a wireless charger on a regular basis?
