iPhones never really had great charging speeds. A lot of us expected the iPhone 14 Pro models to get faster charging speeds as compared to the baseline models. Seems like it’s not Pro enough to get faster charging speeds or options. But what about the new iPhone 15 lineup which is said to have various upgrades from last year’s iPhone 14 series.

Does iPhone 15 Have Fast Charging?

No, the iPhone 15 series does not support fast charging. It offers the same charging speed as last year’s iPhone 14 series. There were rumors of increased charging speeds to 35W for this year’s iPhones which did not turn out to be true. The iPhone 15 has two types of charging: wired and wireless. Wireless charging is inherently slow due to various limitations. With the introduction of the new USB Type-C port, you would expect the charging speed in the iPhone 15 lineup to be improved and slightly faster. However, this is not at all the case

What charging speed does iPhone 15 support?

As you may be aware, Apple doesn’t officially disclose the exact charging speed in watts (for Wired charging) or the battery size in mAh, but such information often surfaces through unofficial sources. Regarding the charging speed on the iPhone 15, it’s reported to be the same as last year’s iPhone 14 series. Here are the charging specifications: Wired Charging

iPhone 15 – 20W iPhone 15 Plus – 20W iPhone 15 Pro – 27W iPhone 15 Pro Max – 27W

Note: Remember these are not confirmed by Apple, but are found in unofficial but trusted tests.

How Long does it take to charge iPhone 15?

As mentioned earlier, Apple doesn’t disclose specific battery specifications, but rather provides information on how quickly the phone charges in a given amount of time and how long it lasts under specific usage scenarios. Additionally, unofficial numbers in terms of mAh are not yet available for iPhone 15 battery. However, you can get some information from the hours and charging percentage. Here’s what battery numbers look like for iPhone 15.

iPhone 15 – 50% in 30 minutes using 20W charger iPhone 15 Plus – 50% in 35 minutes using 20W charger iPhone 15 Pro – 50% in 30 minutes using 20W charger iPhone 15 Pro Max – 50% in 35 minutes using 20W charger

For 100% charge, it can take over 1 hour for all models. If you look at the specifications page it shows 50% in 30 minutes for all models, but when you check the comparison page for the Plus and Pro Max, it shows 35 minutes. And since the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are expected to support up to 27W (because same as iPhone 14 Pro Max), provided you have a charger with the required power, both the Pro and Pro Max can charge faster. We will have more information once the device is available.

How long does iPhone 15 Battery Last

Apple did an amazing job last year. The batteries on all four iPhone 14 models last longer than expected. And since there are many improvements in the new iPhone 15 lineup, battery performance may also be better than last year. Apple has shared some data that will give you some information about the battery life of the iPhone 15. To enjoy the full speed charging, you would need to make use of a 20W charging adapter for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, whereas you need to use 33W Adapter for Pro models. You will have to buy adapters separately as it does not come in the box. If you have an older Apple charging brick at home that will also work. If you want, you can opt for the MagSafe wireless charging that charges faster than your standard regular wireless charging. MagSafe wireless charging can charge at 15W whereas the Qi wireless charging lets you charge your iPhone 15 at 7.5W.

Can We See Better Charging Speeds Next Year?

The charging speeds are the same across the iPhone 15 lineup. Hopefully, we get to see some improvement with the next generation of iPhones with at least some improvement in the Pro models or simply across all the models. For all of this, only time will tell. As of now, Android devices take the win when it comes to faster wired and wireless charging speeds. Also Check:
