How to install macOS 12 Monterey on Windows

Many of us only have a Windows PC but we can’t deny the fact that macOS is an amazing OS. And the great thing is we can get macOS on Windows PC. There are macOS Monterey ISO files available which means it is possible to install macOS like Windows. But it is a bit complex method to install macOS Monterey on Windows. We are going to use the VMware workstation for this guide. Let’s start with the requirements.

Prerequisites

Download and Install VMware Workstation

To run macOS 12 Monterey on Windows, you will have to download virtual machine software. VMware is one such great software that you can use to try out macOS Monterey. You can almost emulate any operating system easily.

Download and run the VMware Unlocker

The Unlocker replaces a few files of VMware and patches it up so that you will be able to boot macOS easily. To download this unlocker you can visit the Unlocker GitHub page. With the unlocker downloaded, simply extract the zip file. Now look for the win-install.cmd, right-click it, and run as administrator. A command window will now open. It will look if the VMware tools for macOS is available or not. If not, it will begin downloading the file that will weigh around 620 MB. Based on your internet speeds, the download speeds will vary. Once it has downloaded and installed the file, the command window will close itself automatically.

Download macOS Monterey ISO file

The most important step here is getting the macOS 12 Monterey ISO. For Mac systems, people can enroll their supported Mac systems for the beta update and then download a DMG file. Since VMware won’t read DMG files, you will need an ISO file of the OS. You will be able to find download links of the OS by a simple Google search, or even a quick scroll through Twitter might fetch you a download link. Download the macOS Monterey ISO file from links that have been used by people and the file is legitimate enough. The ISO file for macOS Monterey will weigh in at 15GB or so.

Install macOS Monterey on VMware

Now that you’ve got all the required things to be able to run the macOS in VMware, let’s get started with the installation process.

Make changes to the macOS Monterey VMX File

You will have to make changes to the VMX folder so that VMware will be able to run macOS Monterey. Head over to the Documents folder of your system. Open Virtual Machine > macOS Monterey and right-click on the macOS Monterey.vmx file. Open the file in Notepad. And, at the end of the code add the following line smc.version = “0” And, once you have added the line. Simply hit the Control Key and S key to save the file and close the Notepad as well.

Power the virtual machine to run macOS Monterey

Open up VMWare, select the macOS virtual machine and click on Power this virtual machine.The system boots up with the Apple Logo.Select the language of your choice.Click on Disk Utility and give a name to your macOS and quit Disk utility.Now, select install macOS 12 beta and click on continue.After that, select the disk that is to be installed and click on Continue.The installation process will now begin. It will, of course, take some time and will be completed on its own.

Set up macOS Monterey

Now on your first boot up to macOS Monterey, you will be able to select the country and language at the welcome screen, followed by settings to customize input and diction. It will also ask to connect your system to the internet. You can skip the migration assistant and on the next screen sign in with your Apple ID. Now it will ask you to create a system account with a username and password. After that, you can agree to the terms and conditions. From here you will be able to disable Siri and choose the preferred system theme. And finally, you will have booted into macOS Monterey on VMware or Virtualbox on Windows. In this manner, you will be able to install macOS Monterey on Windows using VMware or Virtualbox. Of course, there will be some features that might not work perfectly as it’s running on a virtual machine and also the fact that it is the beta version which could no doubt have some bugs here and there.
