For those unfamiliar, the Multiview feature allows users to split the screen, which ultimately enables users to multitask by viewing two different types of content at once and enhances their viewing experience. While the feature is available on TVs released in 2022 or later, you can also split the screen on your LG TV released before 2022 with limited functionality. On many LG TVs released before 2022, the option is limited to viewing a live TV channel on one half of the screen while browsing the internet or streaming content on the other half. Read on to check out how you can achieve this.
How to Turn On Multi View on LG TV
As stated earlier, multi-view is not supported on all LG TV models. To know whether your TV is compatible with multi-view, you need to check the user manual or you can try mentioned methods to check if they work or not. If you have WebOS 22 or above, follow the below steps to turn on Multi-View on the LG TV. Step 1: Press the Settings button on the remote control. Step 2: Navigate to Multi View. Step 3: Select the screen layout of your choice. Step 4: Here, you will be offered two types of screen layouts: Side by Side and PIP (Picture-in-Picture).
Side By Side
If you choose the Side by Side layout, you will see two screens side by side with four options on the top of both screens, each of which defines a particular action.
- Full-Screen: If you choose the first option in a screen, it will make the selected screen exit the split view and appear in full screen.
- Sound: To hear only the sound of the selected screen, choose this option.
- Split Screen: Clicking the third option from one of the displays will change the Side-by-side layout into PIP Mode.
- Close: Clicking the fourth icon will close the split screen.
PIP (Picture-in-Picture)
If you select the PIP (Picture-in-Picture) layout, another app will run on the top of the screen, and you will see seven options on it, each defining a particular action.
- Move: You can use this option to move the position of the PIP screen.
- Resize: To change the size of the mini screen, you can use this option.
- Hide: The third option hides the PIP screen, and you can access the main screen.
- Full Screen: This option will make the mini screen into a large one.
- Sound: If you choose this option, you will only hear the sound of the PIP screen.
- Side by Side: If you want to change the layout to Side by Side, choose this option.
- Close: To exit the PIP screen, select this option.
Supported Combinations for Multi-View
LG has predefined the combinations that you can use, which simply means that you can’t use independent combinations. Moreover, you can’t use the multi-view feature with all the apps. Check out the table below to see the available combinations.
How to Split Screen on Older LG Smart TVs (2016 to 2019 Models)
While older LG TVs launched between 2016 and 2019 don’t have a Multi-View feature in the settings, their operating systems are compatible with a Multi-View app that comes pre-installed. In these TV models, you can watch two TV broadcasts or content from two external inputs side-by-side. Here’s how you can activate it: Step 1: On the remote control, press the Home button. Step 2: Scroll to the app bar, then select and run the app. Step 3: Choose an input for each window from the options listed under each split screen. Each window has a button on top that allows you to switch to full-screen mode, and you can close it with the ‘X’ icon.
