Smartphones and devices with large screens have become common now and even devices with different form factors are improving. But a customized OS was very much needed to get most of these devices. And Google has made a great move with the announcement of Android 12L. This will let users experience all the benefits of a larger display. Google is going to release Android 12L early next year, and currently, it is available in developer preview for testing. There are multiple changes and improvements done for Android 12 to perform even better on large screens.
Android 12L Features – Quick Overview
The user interface will be the same as Android 12, but apps, settings, and elements will be better adjustable like two-column layout for Quick Settings and Notifications. The two-column layout is also used in Lock Screen to show notifications and other settings. Of Course, they have optimized the use of multitasking as per large screens. In Android 12L, Google has added a taskbar to make the multitasking feature powerful and intuitive. You can easily drag and drop the apps directly from the taskbar to open them in the multitasking view. Yes, the Taskbar supports gestures for easy controls. Many other apps have been also optimized for large screens. There are many other changes in Android 12L even for developers like fit to screen media projection, checking apps in compatibility mode, testing apps in split screen mode, and more. Android 12L Eligible Devices
As you already know Android 12L is optimized for large screen devices. These devices include tablets, Chromebooks, foldable phones, and even some phones with large screens. Obviously, not all foldables or tablets will get the update. So you must be excited to know if your device will receive Android 12L or not. Although Google has not released the official list as they are working with other OEMs to bring it on their tablets and foldable phones. For now, two devices have been confirmed so far which you can check below.

Some of the Chrome OS devices will also receive the update. As of now, we don’t have the list for ChromesOS running devices, but we will update once we have the list. Along with tablets, ChromeOS devices, and foldable phones, Pixel phones are also eligible for Android 12L. Pixel phones will get Android 12L Beta starting December 2021. Tablets and foldables that are eligible for Android 12 will receive Android 12L starting Q1 2022. Google has released the Android 12L developer preview which is now available through the Android Emulator. Users can get an Android 12L system image to use it on Android Emulator.
